Scope of Work
The project is for a new 43 million tonne annual capacity iron ore mine. SCEE Electricals’ scope was for the electrical and instrumentation works at the mine processing plant.
Gudai-Darri Mine Site is situated on Banjima land, 110km northwest of Newman in Western Australia WA. Gudai-Darri delivers a new production hub for Rio Tinto’s world-class iron ore business in the Pilbara, incorporating a processing plant and infrastructure including a 166-kilometre rail line connecting the mine to the existing network. Now complete, the mine has an annual capacity of 43 million tonnes.
Navigating through the challenges of the COVID Pandemic, SCEE proved their unwavering commitment to project excellence. Operating with a 'best-for-project' approach, they successfully maneuvered the tumultuous landscape and delivered outstanding results. Their adeptness in devising constructability solutions in collaboration with our team ensured the project was completed within the stipulated timeline.
A testament to their innovation, SCEE harnessed a sophisticated, custom-designed project controls system that offered transparent daily progress updates during construction. This allowed us to provide our client with real-time insights into both cost and progress, fostering a relationship built on trust and reliability.
Throughout the project SCEE installed the following Electrical and Instrumentation infrastructure:
- 5 km of cable ladder including barrier strip and suncover
- 39km of HV cabling
- 210km of 415V/240V power cabling
- 20km of control cabling
- 162km of instrumentation cabling
- 72km of Fibre Optic Cabling
- 69km of Earth Cable
- Over 21,000 cable terminations
- over 17,000 earthing terminations
For the HV scope SCEE installed:
- 21 of 33kV transformers
- 18 of 33kV, 6.6kV and 415V switch rooms
For Process control and monitoring SCEE installed:
- 85 Remote I/O(DX) panels
- 210 Local Control Stations
- 221 Field Isolators
- 1295 field instruments flow, level, weight, speed and pressure
Perhaps most impressive of all, SCEE achieved an exceptional milestone of over 650,000 manhours without a single Lost Time Incident (LTI). Their meticulous pre-mobilization induction program, combined with robust familiarization procedures upon site access, underscored their unwavering commitment to safety and operational excellence.
